Maggi Mason from Seattle is a mixed-media artist. The 2021 Collage of Musing calendar is a collection of her collage art, her recent focus. Each intricate piece of artwork is an assemblage of exotic paper, fabric, clippings, and existing images in different forms. The texture resulted from the interplay of these various materials creates a visual feel that adds emotion and personality to the completed collage.
Maggi’s art tells the story of her encounters in the everyday life here in Washington as well as reflections living in three continents. An owl hiding in the tree around her house, swans swimming in the lake during her walk, and memory of the talk with her sister are all inspiration for the pieces you’ll find in the calendar. The cultural influence of her life abroad is apparent in her art, from her selection of materials to subject matter. All this just makes her art that much more interesting.
A few words from Maggi Mason:
As an artist, I draw my inspiration from poems, songs, myths, memory and travels around the world. Most of my work comes from my imagination, and sometimes from memories of people and landscapes which have touched me in some way. Oftentimes, the pieces that seem to interest the audience most are the ones I feel most passionate about myself. Making art is a wonderful way of sharing.
I would like to suggest to fellow cancer survivors that having a passion, such as creating art, can help to ease and even overcome this difficult disease. So find your passion and concentrate on it instead of on your problems.
